    Classic for screen

NETFLIX is adapting Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s iconic “One Hundred Years of Solitude” into a series.

“This marks the first and only time in more than 50 years that his family has allowed the project to be adapted for the screen,” Netflix said Wednesday. “One Hundred Years of Solitude,” which was originally published in Spanish in 1967, is perhaps the best known work by the Nobel prize-winning author. The novel is set in the fictional “Macondo,” which was inspired by Marquez’s hometown in northern Colombia.

    Awardee

JULIE ANDREWS, the English star of such classic movies as “Mary Poppins” and “The Sound of Music,” will get the Golden Lion for Career Achievement at the 76th Venice Film Festival, organizers said Friday.

The decision was made by the board of the Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta, based on a proposal made by festival director Alberto Barbera.

    Cave rescue series

NETFLIX is partnering with SK Global Entertainment to co-produce a miniseries about last summer’s sensational cave rescue mission in northern Thailand.

The deal for the project was unveiled Thursday by Thailand’s Culture Ministry. With Netflix on board, the project has evolved into an original scripted miniseries.
